About Sedona

SedonaSedona is a medium-sized community of approximately 11,000 people located in the upper Sonoran desert of Arizona, about 120 miles from Phoenix. The area has been settled since prehistoric times by various peoples, including pueblo builders, the Yavapai and Apache tribes, and then finally, white settlers, the first of whom arrived in 1876. The town is named after Sedona Schnebly, who was the wife of the first postmaster.

Sedona is perhaps most well known for its landscape. The town in nestled beneath the area’s magnificent red sandstone formations, Sedona’s Red Rocks, which seem to glow as if they have been set ablaze when struck by the light of the setting sun.

Due to the numerous trails in the area, Sedona is very popular with hikers and bikers, as well as many new age spiritual seekers, many of whom come to visit the five vortices in the area. Sedona is also known as a lively arts center, being home to nearly 100 art galleries, the Sedona International Film Festival, Sedona Jazz Festival and Sedona Arts Festival.
